Getting Started

New Members

  • Fill out membership application.
  • Register for a LSST community account.
  • Join the #milkyway slack channel and the slack channel for your SWG (see below for SWG specific slack channels).
  • Introduce yourself at the next SMWLV wide telecon. The SMWLV wide calendar is available here.

    Communication

    Email:

When you became a member of your Science Collaboration your email was included in a few mailing lists: one for your Science Collaboration, one for the whole Science Collaborations environment, and one for general LSST communications.

    Community:

Community is the best place to get in contact directly with members of the LSST Project and Operations teams. To get access to Community, navigate to https://community.lsst.org and click the blue “Sign Up” button in the upper right-hand corner of the page. (If you want, you can use an existing Github account as your login.) Once your account is active, navigate to https://community.lsst.org/g (‘g’ for Groups) and click “Request” to join a group; the system will ask you for information confirming that you belong to that SC. The SMWLV page is https://community.lsst.org/g/MILKYWAY

    Slack:

Upon joining SMWLV, you will receive an invitation to the LSSTC slack workspace.

  • The main SMWLV slack channel is #milkyway
  • The Star Clusters SWG's slack channel is #smwlv-starclusters
  • The Galactic Structure and ISM SWG's slack channel is #smwlv-galstruct-ism
  • The Magellanic Clouds SWG's slack channel is is #smwlv-mc
  • The Near Field Cosmology SWG's slack channel is #smwlv-near-field-cosmology

    Monthly Telecons:

See the SMWLV calendar for upcoming meetings. Connection information and agendas will be shared via email and slack in advance of the meetings.

We encourage new members to attend the monthly SMWLV telecons and to introduce themselves and their research interests.
